Fossil Research Indicates Intercontinental Migrations Of Turtles

A recent study has uncovered new turtle species in the Arlington Archosaur Site (AAS) of Texas that indicate intercontinental migrations. A team of researchers has discovered four extinct turtle species. One species is the oldest side necked turtles, which originated in the southern hemisphere. Another surpise find is the early soft-shelled turtle which belongs to a lineage that immigrated from Asia. A third breed , the aquatic turtle , originated in North America large but belongs to much older times. This research shows a rare combination of native North American turtles alongside Asian and Southern Hemisphere immigrants, which exhibits extensive intercontinental migration of turtles during that time.
