Algorithm Reveals DNA Structures That Influence Disease

Researchers have developed an algorithm called OnTAD that can find the specific topologically associating domains (TADs) which are involved in various diseases such as cancer. Within the genome, there are local regions where interactions are quite higher than adjoining regions, called topologically associating domains (TADs).  Researchers discovered that the division of TADs can expose genes that can lead to unusual gene expression, causing initiation of cancer. Using OnTAD, researchers figured out several important conclusions about the biological function of TADs. The study suggests that OnTAD is a powerful tool for revealing different levels of DNA organization across a genome.
