BMW unveils futuristic CE 04 electric scooter

BWM has showcased the final consumer version of its CE 04 electric scooter that looks something really futuristic. While it doesn’t look similar to the concept model the company unveiled last year, it still has a sci-fi feel to it.

Aimed at the urban commuter, the new electric scooter packs a 10.25-inch LCD screen, which is actually bigger than most cars. It has a range of 81 miles and a top speed of 75 mph. The CE 04 will be available in 2022 for a price of $16,000. While the cost is double the price of other electric scooters such as Vespa Electtrica, it is also much faster than its contemporaries.

Fast charging capabilities

You can make out what the company is trying to accomplish just by looking at the new CE 04. It has a brand new design that will attract people who are interested in EVs but might not have the budget to go for an electric car.

Besides, the new scooter can be charged using a regular power plug or EV cables, and BMW claims it can quick charge in one hour and 40 minutes from scratch with a level 3 power connection. The company also says the EV can be fully charged in 4 hours and 20 minutes with a standard household socket if you don’t own a fancy charging setup.

Two versions expected

While more details are awaited on the new CE 04’s pricing and optional accessories, you can expect to see a reduced output model that might have a range of around 62 miles. Besides, the cheaper model could have a horsepower range between 15hp and 30 hp, whereas the standard one might have up to 42hp. Both variants should be enough to navigate through city traffic, thanks to their ability to reach up to 31mph in just 2.6 seconds.

There have been many battery breakthroughs recently that will help make EVs more useful. A team from the Pennsylvania State University has tested new batteries that very little time to be charged and survive thousands of charge cycles, as per the new research.
