Physicists Set New Record for Particle Acceleration

Physicists have successfully managed to increase the acceleration of electron beams from 0 to a huge 7.8 billion electron volts (GeV). High energy particle accelerators are a good knowledge resource to understand the origin of the Universe. However, they might have some constraints in size and cost. Laser pulses can generate plasma waves with electromagnetic fields which are more powerful than radiofrequency fields. The plasma channel can keep the laser pulses restrained. The density of the plasma has damaged the sapphire tube by diverting the focus of the laser in the previous experiment. The  Research appeared in Physical Review Letters.
