A recent study on the fossilized fish dated 375 million years ago revealed interesting information about the evolution of fins. Experts use the CT scan to examine the fins structure of the three extinct species of the fishes and prepared a 3-D model of the fins. The model showed how the fins began their transitions into limbs. The models revealed that the fin patches of these species were more patterned and the size of the fin web was much less as compared to their predecessors. The study has given more confidence to the experts and provided crucial information to carry out further research on fin-to-limb transition.
