A new study published by the researchers has shed light on the unexpected decline in the population of caterpillar species in the recent years.Using data collected by the scientists from the protected Costa Rican lowland Caribbean forest, scientists revealed that decline in caterpillar species are caused by extreme climate events such as heavy rainfall, floods as well as deforestation. Scientists hope that the study will motivate the continued research related to the ecological effects of climate change in the tropical region.
