Scientists can now determine using AI whether lung-cancer patients will get benefited from expensive immunotherapy. They had earlier been able to predict the same with chemotherapy. Researchers used AI to detect previously unseen changes in patterns in CT scans taken after diagnosis compared to scans taken after the first 2-3 cycles of immunotherapy treatment. Although, only 20 percent of all cancer patients will undergo immunotherapy, which uses drugs to boost the immune system, unlike chemotherapy that uses drugs to kill cancer cells. Even though immunotherapy has brought a revolution in cancer treatment, it still remains extremely expensive.
