Billions of locusts have invaded East Africa as a result of extreme weather swings which could prove catastrophic for a region still struggling from drought and deadly floods. The locust invasion was recorded as the biggest in Ethiopia and Somalia in 25 years, and the biggest in Kenya in 70 years.Increasing numbers of locust could destroy crops and pasture in a region which is considered as one of the poorest regions in the world. Poor families that were already dealing with food shortages due to natural calamities are now watching their crops being destroyed by the swarm of locusts.
