This Planet Survived its Star’s Red Giant Phase

Planets that orbit around stars other than Sun are called Exoplanets and these Stars are called Host Stars. Scientists use Asteroseismology to study Stars and now also the Exoplanets. In a new study, the authors examined two Red-Giant Host stars HD 212771 and HD 203949 to understand their evolution. They found that an exoplanet orbiting the star is in a strange position. The Star had left its red giant phase behind, but the planet, was occupying an orbit that would have been engulfed during the star’s red giant phase. Contrary to conventional logic the planet survived and the reason could lie in tidal physics.
