Study Revealed Why Magic Mushrooms Turn Blue

A new study revealed why Psilocybe cubensis, the most popular psychedelic mushroom, turns blue when bruised or after being plucked. Although researchers have investigated psychedelic mushrooms for a long time, they didn’t know what, exactly, made mushrooms turn blue when plucked or injured. Researchers from Germany’s Leibniz Institute carried out a study which revealed that the phenomenon is caused by chemical reactions involving the fungi’s most famous compound known as psilocybin. The new findings could help to provide visual artists, interior designers, fashion designers, and even makeup artists new tools in their artistic arsenals.
