Scientists Predict Infinite Rings of Light Around Black Holes

Black holes are among the most mysterious objects in the universe. But A year ago, the world got the first glimpse of a black hole, unveiling the massive object enclosed by a bright, halo-like ring of light. The black hole M87 was discovered in galaxy Messier 87, around 55 million light-years away from Earth and has a mass of about 6.5 billion times that of the Sun. The photon rings around the M87 appear infinite in the image captured by the Event Horizon Telescope. The team designed a simulation of black hole images at a higher resolution and then split these images into a series of sub-images, which helped the scientists to get detailed insights of photon rings. However, researchers believe that higher-resolution observations are required for accurate measurements of black holes.
