Classical computers are often used to simulate complex molecular interactions in the last few decades. However, there is still a requirement of cheaper and more energy-efficient alternatives to simulate chemical reactions for sustainable development. Therefore, researchers are now exploring the special qualities of quantum computing that will take solar energy conversion to new heights. IBM researchers along with its partners are using a cloud-based quantum computer to simulate the chemical reaction and the effects on its spin chemistry. The study shows qubit noise, which is considered as a barrier while using a quantum computer, can be an advantage for chemical simulations. With detailed research, researchers are now aiming to understand complex chemical phenomena such as artificial photosynthesis and solar energy conversion.
