Nile Shipwreck Discovery Proves Herodotus Wasn’t Lying About Egyptian Boats

A sunken ship in the Nile river, dated over 2500 years, may help the scientists to unlock the secrets of a ship whose existence has been questioned for years. Ancient Greek historian Herodotus has mentioned this type of Nile cargo boat called baris in fragment 2.96 of Herodotus’ Histories, published around 450 BCE. This boat had been observed in illustrations and models through the Pharaonic period, but archaeologists have been unable to find evidence of its existence so far. Although this ship may have rested undisturbed in the water for at least 2,000 years, the preservation of Ship has become crucial for the archeologists.
