A comet called Comet ATLAS, or C/2019 Y4, found on December 28, 2019, is on its way towards Earth and could emerge as bright as a curve moon unless it splits up from the Sun’s heat. Atlas is near to Mars’ orbit, enhancing in speed as it approaches the Sun and will make its nearest approach to Earth in May 2020. Comet ATLAS was found by the Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System (ATLAS) in Hawaii and received its name from the abbreviation of the system. While the intensification is still a good two months away, ATLAS can be witnessed through mid-sized backyard telescopes even now.
