Researchers from Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology in Berlin have genetically modified the tuberculosis medicine BCG so that it can boost the immune system. The new vaccine has successfully prevented the recurrence of tumors in almost half of the patients suffering from bladder cancer who were resistant to BCG treatment. The results could lead to the early approval of the drug for the treatment of cancer of the bladder so that as many patients get benefited from this treatment.
