Mahindra Ecole Centrale Developed Its First Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV)

The students of Mahindra Ecole Centrale (MEC) have developed an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) called Black Pearl which can be used in research and exploration and to retrieve objects from water bodies. The AUV consists of a lithium polymer battery and has a vertical camera and a horizontal camera for capturing images. The AUV is developed at a cost of ₹3.70 lakh and would be upgraded to receive inputs from the sensors to retrieve objects from the water bodies. The Black Pearl could be used in a range of applications including marine science, commercial, civil and defense sectors.
