Researchers recently experimented on six koalas in their semi-natural enclosures to analyze their movements. From the recovered footage, they analyzed koalas movements were similar to the primates while climbing whereas they were more like marsupials while walking on the ground. They were able to achieve a speed of up to 10 kilometers per hour probably due to their low energy diet of eucalyptus leaves. Researchers believe that understanding the movements of koala could be helpful for the conservation of this vulnerable species of Australia.
