Human Activities Have Changed The Shape Of River Deltas

A new study has revealed that deforestation and dam constructions have changed the shape of river deltas across the globe. Researchers have developed a model using mathematical theories that suggests that the shape of river delta is deeply affected by new dams and sand mining over the past three decades. The most affected delta regions were in the south, southeast and east Asia, contributing to 57% of the land gain and 61% of land loss.  Researchers emphasized that these gains and losses happened despite rising seas. But much of the new delta area probably will be submerged in the future
