Spanish desert ants often travel long distances in search for food and when they find a large meal they usually drag it to their nest walking in the backward direction. Researchers have been trying to figure out the mystery behind their navigational strategy. It comes out that the ants have an uncanny ability to memorize landmarks and all the turns that come along their way even while walking in the backword direction. This is very high level of visual sophistication for such small creatures. Researchers are hoping to uncover more information about ant navigation and also considering to analyze the changes in its navigational strategies by covering one of the eyes with paint.
