Researchers from UT Southwestern Medical Center have found a protein that could help to rejuvenate and heal the muscle damage in the heart. The discovery is unique in its own way as there are no existing treatments to restore heart muscle. The breakthrough could eventually be used to revoke this developmental block and help heart cells restore. Moreover, it could pave the way to a completely new way to treat several diseases that involve heart muscle damage such as heart failure caused by viruses, toxins, high blood pressure, or heart illnesses.
