Global Warming Solutions-Harvard’s ideas win $1M fund

Global Warming Solutions- Harvard’s researchers have worked hard to chalk out strategies and ideas for global warming solutions. As global warming is increasingly becoming a cause for global concern, Harvard’s nine teams have dedicated themselves to address it head-on. The Harvard University has a Climate Change Solutions Fund, which was established in 2014. The then, president Emerita Drew established the CCSF, to imbibe more sustainable resources than nonrenewable ones. Its prime intention was to support and fund climate-related research.

Now, for the seventh round of CCSF, there are nine dedicated teams to brainstorm new global warming solutions and ideas. A $1M amount will be shared among these nine teams to carry out these ideas successfully. And also have them implemented not only in Harvard campus but also global to better climatic conditions.

Larry Bacow is Harvard’s President and supports the cause for the fund’s collection. He quotes, “The projects being funded this year draw on strengths from across the University and among a wide swath of researchers and scholars. I look forward to seeing where their efforts lead us in the years ahead”.

Project’s aim:

Because many reasons contribute to global warming, identifying them and then mitigating them should be the protocol. So, the dipping levels of groundwater in India, its extraction methods, and the methane exhausts in China are the few prime focus areas. And another area of exploration is studying the natural structures at Harvard’s Museum of Comparative Zoology to find their profitable properties.

Selection Criteria to get the fund:

Harvard’s fund committee every year shortlists and selects the most promising projects that make the best use of Harvard Campus and its resources. And use these resources as a huge experimental lab and align them with Harvard’s Sustainability Plan. The Presidential Committee on Sustainability and the Office for Sustainability define these plans and climatic goals. This year it is a total fund of $7 million funds covering approximately 60 CCSF projects including $1M for global warming solutions.
