DRDO develops chaff technology that is a highly advanced one, sources confirmed. In an extremely appreciating move, the DRDO has developed an indigenous piece of chaff technology. This will help protect Indian Ships from enemy missile attacks. DRDO is the Indian Defense Research and Development Organization and has been working on the technology for a while. And thus, it has released its three variants together.
What is Chaff technology?
A chaff technology is a countermeasure mechanism that is used globally to protect ships. And is a passive expendable electronic technology and helps decoy incoming radar-guided missiles. First developed in Berlin suburbs, it was also used in the Second World War era. The technology uses an aircraft that disperses a gust of small pieces of aluminum, glass fiber, or even plastic. These appear as primary targets to help the ships evade enemy attacks. And it has been developed based on the fact that a little chaff material is deployed to deflect the opponent’s missiles. Thus, the need to improve and aggrandize the existing technology was highly pressing.

DRDO develops chaff technology -the three variants.
The three variants of the homegrown technology are the Short Range Chaff Rocket, Medium-Range Chaff Rocket, and the Long Range Chaff Rocket. All of these can be well imbibed in the Indian Navy and are expected to meet the defense requirements. This development of DRDO also comes as one of the initiatives of Atmanirbhar Bharat. And after conducting field trials for the three variants in the Arabian Sea, the Navy found their performance to be at par. Now, the next step is to incorporate the latest technology into the Indian defense systems completely. And hand over the technology and knowledge to industry experts. Thus, production of the technology is expected to start soon.
The news that “DRDO develops chaff technology” first appeared on 5th April 2021. But it has been doing rounds since then.
