Dopamine, Biological Clock Link To Overeating and Obesity

The diet in the US and other western nations has changed dramatically in the last few years, with an increase in ultra-processed foods. A team of US researchers has revealed that an organic chemical produced by the brain called dopamine governs the biological clock and leads to the consumption of high-calorie foods during odd hours. Researchers experimented on mice and observed that mice offered high-calorie become addicted to “snacking” at all hours and became overweight. Whereas, the mice that were provided with the normal eating schedule did not become fat, even with the availability of high-calorie food. The study clearly shows that over-consumption of calories and overeating often results in obesity and severe health problems.
