Astronomers Detected Mysterious Radio Signal From Space Repeating Every 16 Days

For the first time, astronomers have discovered a fast radio burst that produces a regular pattern of bursts. Astronomers examined the repeating FRB 180916.J0158+65 using the Canadian Hydrogen Intensity Mapping Experiment (CHIME) radio telescope. The team had earlier observed that radio pulses from this source came from a Milky Way-like galaxy named SDSS J015800.28+654253.0, which is positioned about 500 million light-years from Earth. Astronomers examined 38 bursts discovered from September 2018 to February 2020 and identified a cycle that seemed to repeat about every 16 days. Researchers are now hopeful to conduct several follow-up observations that may help to explain its activity.
