Astronomers Captured New Pics of Asteroid 1998 OR2, Heading For An Earth flyby

A team of experts from Arecibo Observatory, Florida, has been monitoring this near-Earth asteroid that will fly by Earth next week, but it’s not expected to collide with Earth. The asteroid named 52768 (1998 OR2), is fairly large, measuring an estimated 1.2 miles in diameter and it was first detected in 1998. It is supposed to pass within 3,908,791 miles of Earth On April 29, moving at 19,461 miles per hour. That’s still 16 times more distant than the distance between Earth and the moon. Arecibo Observatory is sponsored by NASA’s Near-Earth Object Observations Program and has been examining asteroids since the mid-’90s.
