An Important Step Toward The Accomplishment Of Synthetic Nanomachines

A team of chemists at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universitaet (LMU) in Munich have coupled the directed motion of a light-activated molecular motor to a different chemical unit and proved that motor can not only rotate the receiver in the same direction but can significantly accelerate its rotation at the same time. Molecular motors are known as the chemical composites that transform energy into directed motions. The research has taken an important step toward the realization of synthetic nanomachines and successfully demonstrate that the motor does determine the rate of rotation of the single bond.
