A New Method To Irrigate Crops All Year Long

Rural areas of India have limited access to electricity which makes it difficult for the farmers to use groundwater for irrigation. Due to limited access to electricity, they have to rely on rented diesel or kerosene operated pumps which hardly earn them any profit. Fortunately, a startup called Khethworks is launching solar powered pumps to help underserved farmers in India irrigate crops year round instead of being limited to the monsoon season. The pump weighs under 10 pounds and 60 farmers have successfully used the pump during trials. Khethworks is now on its way to sell 100 pumps to farmers in the states of Jharkhand and West Bengal by the end of the first quarter of 2020.
