A New Form Of Glass Through Molecular Involvement

Glass materials are widely used in our daily life, ranging from windows to soft drinks bottles. Researchers from the University of Vienna in collaboration with the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research have discovered a new type of glass developed by long, cyclic molecules. Rather than using non-physical and immobilized particles, researchers made the constituent particles long, flexible and more mobile to develop a topological glass. Researchers claimed this glass is microscopically very different from the common glass material and more detailed research needs to be carried out to uncover detailed properties of this topological glass.
