Paleontologists have discovered a site in North Dakota that includes the fossils of animals and plants killed and buried within an hour of the meteor collision that killed the dinosaurs 66 million years ago. After the meteor impact, researchers believe, it released vast clouds of dust flying tens of kilometers up into the air, which spread around the planet at speeds of up to 6 kilometers per second. This is the richest fossil site ever discovered, including insects, fish, mammals, dinosaurs, and plants living at the end of the Cretaceous, combined with tektites and rock created and separated by the collision.
