A team of researchers has revealed that teeth also act as a silent recorder of major life events inside the microstructure of dental tissue. Researcher Paola Cerrito and her team from New York University examined 47 teeth from the corpse collection of 5 deceased individuals from Central African Malawians of Bantu origin. Researchers aimed to figure out if the same changes in human teeth would associate with major life events in people’s lives like childbirth and menopause. The team observed that these life events were recognizable in the teeth of all the women in the study, moreover, they also noticed other systemic illnesses. The team believes this discovery could have a major impact on future research, varying from archaeology to medicine.
