Chemists Developed A New Artificial Enzyme

Researchers have recently declared they are one step closer to develop an artificial enzyme, which could have implications in various applications including medicine. Rajeev Prabhakar from the University of Miami in collaboration with the University of Michigan have created a novel, synthetic, three-stranded molecule that functions just like a natural enzyme containing metal ions. The new molecule designed by the researchers on the University of Miami’s supercomputer has the third strand that differs in structure from the other two strands. Prabhakar believes that collaborative research paves way for the strategy to achieve the creation of artificial enzymes that work as similar to natural enzymes.
