Understanding the function of a particular gene is quite complicated as a gene play a different role to keep a cell alive. Therefore, scientists often block the function of genes to observe the changes. However, certain genes are essential, so blocking them, makes it difficult to study certain diseases. Researchers Michael J. Guertin Guertin and Kizhakke Mattada Sathyan evolved a new method that diminishes the proteins a gene makes and blocks the gene’s functions. The researchers were quite familiar with the limitations of the traditional method. The researchers have published their new method in the scientific journal Genes & Development.
